Indiana County Release Meaning
A release ends one agency's physical detention. It does not always mean that the person walked into the community. Someone can leave Indiana County Jail because bail was met, a judge ordered release, a county sentence ended, or county parole began. The same person can also leave because PA DOC, another county, federal authorities, immigration authorities, or a treatment placement took custody. The destination field matters. Without it, a vanished jail entry can be mistaken for freedom when the event was only a transfer.
Indiana County uses two distinct correctional systems. The county operates Indiana County Jail for local commitments. PA DOC operates SCI Pine Grove for state-sentenced people. Their shared Indiana, Pennsylvania address does not combine their records. A county jail release is confirmed through the jail transaction, PA SAVIN event, and criminal docket. A state-prison parole or discharge is checked through PA DOC, PA SAVIN, the sentencing docket, and DOC records. Each record answers a different part of the question.

Indiana County Release Types

Death also ends a roster entry, but it is not a release. A community corrections placement may be less restrictive than prison while still carrying a DOC custody or supervision status. Precise terms prevent false conclusions.
Note: A person who left Indiana County Jail may still be held by PA DOC, another county, BOP, ICE, or another authority.
Indiana County Release Record Fields
Indiana County does not publish a sample release sheet or a guaranteed public field list. The items below are request targets drawn from common commitment and discharge records. Ask for the existing booking or commitment record and the release transaction. Do not ask staff to create a narrative. Protected medical, juvenile, security, victim, personal-identifier, or investigative material may be removed before production.

A booking photo can be stored apart from the release transaction. Current Pennsylvania law restricts mugshot dissemination, so requesting the non-photo release fields remains useful even when the photograph is withheld. The record returned by the custodian controls, not an assumed schema.
Request Indiana County Release Records

- Identify the person and a finite admission or date range. Add a booking number when known.
- Ask for the existing booking or commitment record and release or discharge transaction, including the date, time, type, authority, and destination fields that exist.
- Request the native electronic format. State that exempt parts may be redacted and ask for the legal basis for each withholding.
- Submit through a method permitted by county policy and keep proof of delivery.
- Use the appeal instructions if the written response denies access to a record that should be reviewed.
Under Pennsylvania Right-to-Know Law section 901, an agency ordinarily responds within five business days. Section 902 allows a written extension for listed reasons, generally up to 30 calendar days unless the requester agrees otherwise. The statewide Office of Open Records fee schedule permits no added delivery charge for email production. It lists black-and-white copies at up to $0.25 per side for the first 1,000 pages, color copies up to $0.50, certification up to $5 per record, and actual postage. Current terms should be checked before submission.
Important: Request an existing log or export. The Right-to-Know Law does not require Indiana County to calculate a new rolling release list or answer questions.
Indiana County Release Court Records
Indiana County combines the Prothonotary and Clerk of Courts on one county page. That office links criminal-record search and expungement material. The statewide UJS public case search can be searched by participant or docket with Indiana County selected. A docket may show charges, bail, filings, disposition, sentence, probation or parole orders, and later court action. It explains the legal event that could authorize release.
The docket does not normally record the exact moment jail staff completed discharge. Pair a bail grant, time-served sentence, or dismissal with Indiana County Jail Records or PA SAVIN. Recent filings may lag. Limited-access cases may not appear. A missing online docket therefore proves neither that no case existed nor that a person was released.

Indiana County Record Access Limits
The Pennsylvania Right-to-Know Law begins with access to agency public records, but it contains exemptions and incorporates restrictions from other law. Criminal-investigation records, sensitive personal data, juvenile material, medical information, sealed matters, court orders, and safety concerns may require denial or redaction. Retention is also separate from access. A record schedule does not make every retained item public or searchable online.
Expungement and limited access are different tools. Expungement can remove qualifying records under 18 Pa.C.S. section 9122. Petition-based limited access and Clean Slate automatic limited access apply only when statutory conditions are met. They do not mean that every record vanishes after one set period. Offense type, later cases, restitution, and exclusions can matter. The current court record and order should guide any case-specific question.
Find Indiana County Released Inmates
Indiana County publishes no official public jail roster, 24-hour release feed, 72-hour archive, or mobile jail app. That local absence changes the search order. Start with direct county confirmation, then use the system tied to the person's legal path. A current-custody tool answers whether someone remains held. A release record answers when and why a named custodian ended detention.
- Call Indiana County Jail at 724-471-7500. Follow the prompts and ask the Shift Sergeant when checking whether a known person remains committed.
- Search or register for PA SAVIN through VINELink for a county-jail, state-prison, or state-parole custody event.
- Read the UJS criminal docket for bail, disposition, sentence, or transfer authority.
- Search PA DOC when a state sentence, SCI transfer, or state parole is possible.
- Use BOP, ICE, or the federal docket when a federal or immigration pickup may have followed county custody.
- Request the county or DOC release record when the online tools do not preserve the needed history.
A same-day search should focus on the telephone, PA SAVIN, and records fallback. A calculation question must separate sentence dates from an actual release event.
Released people often leave the active list. Roster absence alone is not proof because transfer, data lag, a name variation, or another custodian can produce the same result.
PA DOC Indiana Release Search
The PA DOC locator instructions say the system covers state-sentenced inmates and parolees, updates daily, and excludes county-jail prisoners. Search by inmate number when it is known. Otherwise, last name is the minimum name field, and first name helps separate common matches. Results may include DOC number, demographic descriptors, institution or parole status, supervision location, and sentence information supplied by DOC.

The public instructions do not promise a permanent archive for fully discharged people. A no-result cannot prove release. When maximum discharge may have ended the locator entry, request PA DOC records and inspect the sentencing docket.

Indiana County Release Alerts
PA SAVIN, Pennsylvania's VINE service, is unusually important in Indiana County because the county offers no public recent-release feed. Official state material says PA SAVIN covers county jails, state prisons, and state parole. It can send phone, text, email, or app alerts for covered custody changes. That cross-system reach makes it the closest verified electronic event channel for Indiana County Jail.
At VINELink, select Pennsylvania, search for one named person, compare the custodian and identifiers, then open the matching record. A released status means the participating source sent that event. It does not rule out another detainer, warrant, supervision term, or receiving agency. Register before an expected event when possible and confirm the result with the jail, DOC, or court.
The official PA SAVIN registration instructions also warn against relying on one service alone.
The state instructions support alerts as a prompt to verify the source record, not as a complete release history.

A court docket is often the bridge. It can explain why local custody ended, while the receiving agency shows whether detention continued elsewhere.
Indiana County Jail Transfer Records
SCI Pine Grove began receiving inmates in January 2001 and was dedicated the next month. Its Indiana address creates a local source of confusion. A person can leave Indiana County Jail for SCI Pine Grove and still be incarcerated. A transfer between state prisons has the same effect: the person left one building but did not leave PA DOC custody.
For a suspected state transfer, search the PA DOC locator and compare the DOC number, institution, and status. PA SAVIN may report the custody event. The county release transaction should identify a destination or receiving agency when that field was recorded. Reserve the word released for an actual release event, such as parole or maximum discharge.

Indiana County Historical Custody Scale
Indiana County's official 2017 to 2019 PREA report supplies context, not a current release list. For 2017 it recorded 1,098 commitments, an average daily population of 145.43, and a year-end population of 161. Commitments are admissions. Population figures are snapshots or averages. None is a count of released people.
These older figures show why a current call cannot reconstruct a past release period. A historical request should name the exact dates and seek existing release transactions or a native log for that range.
Travel After Indiana County Release
No official county source states a release door, daily release time, waiting area, property pickup process, transportation promise, or gate payment. Call Indiana County Jail before traveling. Confirm that release has occurred, ask what staff may disclose about the exit point and property, and avoid timing a trip from a court order alone.
